Melanie Griffith defends Dakota Johnson's 'Fifty Shades of Grey' casting
Actress Melanie Griffith is over the moon about her daughter Dakota Johnson's upcoming role as Anastasia Steele, opposite Charlie Hunnam's Christian Grey, in the film version of E.L. James' "Fifty Shades of Grey."
Well, she was over the moon, anyway -- until fans of the book started tweeting nasty things about the casting choice.
After James announced the news of Johnson and Hunnam's new roles, Melanie tweeted a big congrats to her daughter with "Eastbound & Down" star Don Johnson.
My beautiful child Dakota has been chosen to play Anna Steele in 50 Shades!!! Look out world! Here she comes!!! #proudmama-- Melanie Griffith (@MelanieGriffith) September 2, 2013
But it was not long until Griffith was cursing at a fan who did not share her sentiment. She responded to an unkind tweet that calls Dakota "homely" and the casting choice "horrible" with, "Wow! You're quite the b**** aren't you? #dontmesswithmama" Whoops.
Meanwhile, a producer for the film reveals Johnson and Hunnam were the obvious choice, based on their chemistry at auditions. What do you think of Dakota as Anastasia?
