Mark Wahlberg graduates, gets high school diploma at age 42
Mark Wahlberg is many things, but he was not able to add high school graduate to that list in the past. Though Wahlberg has done very well for himself, he never made it past ninth grade as a teenager, before dropping out of school altogether.
That changed when Mark realized he could take classes online to finally conquer that challenge. In an op-ed on Huffington Post, Wahlberg admits he was one of the few very lucky dropouts, going on to have a successful Hollywood career.
He says that for nearly a year he has been working toward getting his high school diploma once and for all, to close that chapter of his life. "I've been taking classes and studying any chance I could get -- on the set, traveling for work and at home," Wahlberg says. That journey has come to an end, as Mark shares, "I'm happy to report that I am officially a high school graduate, having received my diploma this summer."
He wants those without their diplomas to know they aren't alone and it can always be rectified. He even points to his Mark Wahlberg Youth Foundation, which has partnered with Taco Bell's Graduate for Mas program to give teens the tools they need to finish high school.
Though his journey through high school is over, it sounds like Mark plans to now help others in situations like his reach the same goal. He concludes with what can be taken as a bit of inspiration, writing, "If we don't live by example, then what do we live by? I am proud to re-introduce myself to you today as Mark Wahlberg -- High School Graduating Class of 2013."
