Benedict Cumberbatch considers 'Lost City of Z' amid 'Star Wars' rumors
After word broke that Benedict Cumberbatch was leaving Guillermo del Toro's "Crimson Peak," many speculated he was doing so for a role in J.J. Abrams' "Star Wars: Episode VII." While it remains to be is Cumberbatch is getting a part in that film, he at least is considering joining a completely different project.
Deadline reports that Cumberbatch is in talks to star in James Gray's "Lost City of Z" as Amazon explorer Percy Fawcett. Based on the nonfiction book by David Grann, the tale follows Fawcrett in 1925 as he tried to prove that the ancient civilization of El Dorado, which he called "Z," actually existed.
Gray wrote the script for "Lost City of Z" and is also is slated to direct. Originally Brad Pitt was on board to play Fawcett, but he ended up backing out after being attached for a few years. Cumberbatch is an interesting choice to serve as his replacement, but considering his rise to prominence in the Hollywood scene in recent years, it makes perfect sense.
Do you think Cumberbatch is a good fit for the role of Fawcett?
