'Finding Dory', 'Zootopia' and 'The Good Dinosaur' concept art released
Disney unveiled a lot of promising animation projects during the first day of their annual D23 Fan Expo. From "Finding Dory" and "Zootopia," to "Big Hero 6" and "The Good Dinosaur," the future of the animation giant isn't in question.
Further proof of that can be seen in the concept art for the various movies. "Finding Dory" (above) is the highly-anticipated sequel to "Finding Nemo" that centers on the character played by Ellen DeGeneres, as she searches for her family. Of course, Nemo and his dad then have to find her.
One of the most impressive pieces shown was from "Inside Out," which will take viewers into the thought process of a 12-year-old girl. Her various feelings, from anger to joy, will be characters in the cartoon. Voices announced include Lewis Black, Amy Poehler, Mindy Kaling, Bill Hader and Phyllis Smith.
Pixar's "The Good Dinosaur" follows a young dino named Arlow as he encounters the first human anyone of his kind has ever seen, a boy named Spot. Voices include Hader, John Lithgow, Frances McDormand, Neil Patrick Harris, Judy Greer and Lucas Neff.
"Big Hero 6" is the first animated Marvel movie from Disney. It features a young man named Hiro, who lives in San Fransokyo (a mash-up of San Francisco and Tokyo). He assembles a superhero team, along with his robotic best friend, to fight evil forces.
"Zootopia" is still quite a ways off and there was no cast announced. The movie is set in a modern world, created entirely by animals. With the locales and architecture meant to resemble actual animal habitats, with no humans ever walking the Earth.
It's a very promising slate from Disney. The company isn't resting on the promises of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and "Star Wars" to keep them going down the line. Instead, they also keep an emphasis on what made them a name in the first place: cartoons.
