Cross of Jesus possibly found as archaeologists unearth piece in Turkey
Archaeologists in Turkey believe they may have discovered a piece of the cross Jesus Christ was crucified on during an excavation. The group has been digging for four years at the Balatlar Church in the Black Sea.
The fragment was found inside a stone chest engraved with two crosses. According to Professor Gulgun Koroglu, who is part of the dig, "We have found a holy thing in a chest. It is a piece of a cross, and we think it was [part of the cross on which Jesus was crucified]," the Hurriyet Daily News reports. She also noted the discovery of the chest is "the most important artifact we have unearthed so far."
To determine what they've found, the chest and fragment have been sent to be tested in their laboratory. The project has also led to the discovery of over 1,000 skeletons.
