Jim Kelly dies, 'Enter the Dragon' actor was 67
Actor and martial artist Jim Kelly died Saturday (June 29) at 67 years old, the Associated Press reports. The death was confirmed by his ex-wife, Marilyn Dishman, who said he had been battling cancer.
Kelly was best known as Bruce Lee's co-star in 1973's "Enter The Dragon." He was a last minute addition to the film, after the actor originally cast in the role dropped out days before production began. From there Kelly starred in a string of blaxploitation movies with martial arts themes.
Looking back on "Enter the Dragon" in a 2010 interview, Kelly called it "one of the best experiences of my life." Eventually his acting work started to slow down, but he still had a fan base, with comic book convention appearances bringing in lines of autograph seekers.
