Barack Obama says broccoli is his favorite food, Twitter disagrees
When you're the President of the Unites States, you travel quite a bit. That means access to many different types of food, all over the world. So, if someone were to ask President Barack Obama what his favorite thing to each is, the answer should be pretty impressive, right?
Wrong. During a White House event Tuesday (July 9), Obama met with a group of children who won a healthy recipe contest. When one of them asked what his personal favorite food was, the President easily answered, "Broccoli," Reuters reports.
Of course, he was talking to an audience of kids at a healthy eating event, so what else could he say? Still, his answer quickly became the punchline to many Twitter jokes.
Comedy Central offered, "Obama tells kid journalist his favorite food is broccoli. And his favorite activity is lying to children," while political reporter Dave Weigel tweeted, "This broccoli discussion is more proof that you could fire half the press corps at random and America would be fine."
At least Obama didn't go on at lengths about how much he hated broccoli, like former President George H. W. Bush. During his time in office, Bush was quoted as saying, "I do not like broccoli and I haven't liked it since I was a little kid and my mother made me eat it. And I'm President of the United States and I'm not going to eat any more broccoli."
There's a good message for America that will surely get the country back in the number one spot as the most obese nation.
