Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez, Floyd 'Money' Mayweather begin boxing match promotional tour
For boxing fans, an upcoming bout between Floyd "Money" Mayweather and Saul "Canelo" Albarez is something to get excited about. For the last several years, Mayweather has been one of boxing's biggest draws and it's easy to see why. With a perfect record of 44-0, many have wondered what it would take to stop him.
Alvarez may just be the man for the job. The current WBC, WBA and Ring Magazine Light Middleweight Champion is also undefeated, though his record isn't perfect. He's 42-0-1, with a draw happening early in his career.
The pair are going on an 11-city promotional tour to pump fans up for their September 14 bout, which will be at the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas, Nev. The first stop on the tour happened Monday (June 24) in New York City. The two met in New York City's Times Square, as thousands of fans gathered. "Canelo, I appreciate you for taking the fight," Mayweather said, "Now, let's give the fans what they want to see."
Being his usual cocky self, Mayweather is already convinced of a win. "The Earth is my turf," he says, "You can put me in any ring and I will always come out victorious." Don't count Alvarez out just yet. Speaking through a translator, he declares, "In the sport of boxing, it's everybody's time, and this is my time," adding, "I'm going to win."
Mayweather and Alvarez will also be hitting Grand Rapids, Chicago, Atlanta, Miami, Mexico City, Houston, San Antonio, Phoenix and Los Angeles before the tour is done. Barring a draw, one man will walk away form the fight unable to call himself undefeated. The bout will air live on Showtime, September 14 at 9 p.m. ET.
