Pixies release 'Bagboy', first new song in almost a decade - Listen now
Kim Deal leaves the band, and suddenly there's a new song from the Pixies. It's curious timing sure, but you take what you can get. The band released their first new song in nearly a decade Friday (June 28).
"Bagboy" is being offered up for free download and even has a music video. Whether you'll want to download the song or watch the video is a different story. The track is fine, but doesn't seem to carry the same weight as some of the band's other work. It doesn't help that the lyrics aren't sung, but rather spoken and yelled by front man Black Francis. The music behind the vocals is where it's strongest. The band can obviously still jam, and they show it.
It's the first new song since a 2004 iTunes exclusive single, "Bam Thwok," was released. Whether or not this leads to an album, their last was in 1991, remains to be seen.
