Chris Brown's 'monster graffiti' upsets neighbors; singer has no plans to back down
R&B singer Chris Brown is in hot water again -- but this time it's with his neighbors in the Hollywood Hills.
Brown has decorated his Los Angeles-area home with brightly-colored depictions of creatures that have bulging eyes and big, sharp teeth, in what the neighbors are calling "monster graffiti."
"There are lots of babies, lots of children, and they're literally frightened. It's like devils on the wall -- big scary eyes and big scary teeth, and just the whole vibe is not what we're used to," neighbor Patti Negri tells the AP.
Brown may end up being fined by the city of Los Angeles if he does not remove said graffiti, which City Councilman Tom LaBonge says is against the city ordinance for "un-permitted and excessive signage," reports KCAL-9.
"He has a beautiful home that he lives in, but that type of image is not what is allowed by code," says LaBonge.
Not all neighbors are upset by the graffiti. Neighbor Vincent Bouvier says, "This is just an expression of art ... Like it or not, it's not a big deal."
But this is not the first time Brown's neighbors have been upset with his behavior. KCAL reports that he has previously drawn ire for driving at high speeds through the neighborhood and for throwing loud parties. The people who live around him just want to Brown to reside there peacefully.
"We're happy to have him here as a neighbor. We have a lot of wonderful, creative celebrity-type neighbors. But just ... be a neighbor," says Negri.
Brown has defended his "art" on Twitter, writing, "Keep [the frightened children] inside then! It's art. There are scarier creatures on Harry potter. Get a f***ing life! ... ima paint until my hands fall off."
And just as an aside -- do they remind anybody else of the Langoliers?
