Zooey Deschanel gets an apology from Caption Solutions for Boston Marathon mistake
One of the most glaring media errors to come out in the wake of the Boston Marathon bombings was when the closed captioning service of a local FOX affiliate named "New Girl" star Zooey Deschanel as a suspect instead of Dzhokar Tsarnaev. Now almost a week after that mistake was brought to light, Kansas-based Caption Solutions is apologizing for the company's error.
Caption Solutions president Kala J. Patterson says in a statement that they "sincerely apologize for this error" and that the company and captioner "deeply regret" the mistake, The New York Daily News reports. The caption read, "Marathon bombing. He is 19-year-old Zooey Deschanel," and was placed next to an image of Tsarnaev. The mistake was captured in a photo, seen above, that went viral on the Internet.
For her part, Deschanel didn't seem to be too angered by the misuse of her name. After seeing Joel McHale post the picture, she retweeted it and said, "Whoa! Epic closed captioning FAIL!"
