Grateful Dead's Bob Weir collapses onstage during Furthur set
Guitarist Bob Weir fell over onstage and was unable to finish his set with Grateful Dead offshoot Furthur at The Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, NY Thursday night (April 25).
Furthur played two sets for the final show of their sold out nine-night residency at the venue, and Jambase reports Weir was visibly struggling through the second set. The band was playing "Unbroken Chain" when Weir suddenly toppled over. He awesomely kept playing from the floor, as two crew members helped him up and placed him in a chair.
When the song ended, the band briefly left the stage. When they returned sans Weir, bassist Phil Lesh announced his bandmate was suffering from a shoulder injury and would not be able to finish Set 2. In a video of Furthur's performance posted to YouTube, Weir can be seen stumbling to the stage floor at around :54.
Furthur is scheduled to play Saturday at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, and will headline Night 2 of the Bottle Rock Napa Valley music festival on May 9.
