'G.I. Joe 3' coming from Paramount after big opening weekend
It's another movie franchise for Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson. The wrestler-turned-action star can look forward to one more military adventure, following the opening weekend of "G.I. Joe: Retaliation." The movie took the top spot at the Easter weekend box office with $41.2 million in the United States. The big money behind this movie is international box office, though. Since it's release Wednesday, it has raked in $132 million globally.
According to a report from Variety, Paramount Pictures is already moving forward with a third movie. Given how it outperformed the first installment, "G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra," overseas, that's not much of a surprise.
"Retaliation" was originally supposed to come out last June, but the studio announced a month before release that it was being pushed back to March 29. The official reason given was to convert the film to 3D. Reports at the time also blamed the delay on negative reactions from test audiences who were upset Channing Tatum, star of the first movie, exits the film early.
