'Cookie Monster' arrested for assaulting a toddler in Times Square
An unofficial "Cookie Monster" was arrested in Times Square after becoming aggressive with a 2-year-old who had taken a picture with him. The man, later identified as 33-year-old Queens resident Osvaldo Quiroz-Lopez, reportedly became irate after a woman refused to pay $2 for the photo her son took with him.
The New York Daily News reports that Quiroz-Lopez called tourist Parmita Kurada a "b**tch" and her son Samay a "bastard," among other curses, when they wouldn't pay the money he felt he was due. The costumed man then pushed young Samay and made him lose his balance, causing Kurada's husband to alert the police.
Quiroz-Lopez was arrested for assault and endangering the welfare of a child. He has no prior arrests.
