'Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 2' DVD, Blu-ray sales debut best since 'New Moon'
"The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 2" moved 3.85 million DVD and Blu-ray units in its first weekend. That's up from the 3.2 million units sold for the debut of "Breaking Dawn - Part 1" and 2.6 million for "Eclipse." "New Moon" still holds the franchise's first weekend record with 4 million units.
In a press release touting the sales, distributors Lionsgate and Summit also pointed out that Blu-ray sales made up 27% of the debut numbers for "Breaking Dawn - Part 2," up from 22% for "Breaking Dawn - Part 1."
Additionally, digital sales of the film (which are tracked separately from the DVD/Blu-ray hard copies) jumped about 20% from the 50,000 estimated for the bow of "Breaking Dawn - Part 1."
With opening numbers like this, it's a certainty that "Breaking Dawn - Part 2" will be one of the year's top home entertainment releases. "Breaking Dawn - Part 1" finished as the third highest selling DVD of 2012 trailing "The Hunger Games" and "Brave."
