New 'Despicable Me 2' trailer shows Steve Carell's Gru as a hero
After giving up his super-villain ways in the first movie, the trailer for "Despicable Me 2" shows Gru (Steve Carell) finding himself in the role of the hero. Now caring for the girls he adopted at the end of the first installment, Gru is surprised when he is kidnapped by the Anti-Villain League, and taken to their hidden base.
What he finds when he arrives is they need him to help defeat a new villain. Now Gru, along with the Minions, fight for the good guys, and reap the benefits. Gru gets a bunch of fun new gadgets, as well as the adoration of his adopted daughters. Of course, the Minions are there to make a mess of everything.
The movie reunites many cast members, including Russell Brand, Miranda Cosgrove, and Kristen Wiig. Al Pacino joins the cast as the villain. "Despicable Me 2" will be in theaters July 3. Also in the works is a spin-off movie centered around the Minions, with Sandra Bullock voicing the evil Scarlet Overkill.
