New 'Catching Fire' portrait reveals Sam Claflin as Finnick Odair
Two more big character portrait releases to round out the day for fans of "The Hunger Games." It turns out Thursday revealed the three male leads in "Catching Fire," the second installment of the franchise. It started in the morning with Josh Hutcherson's Peeta Mellark, and continued into the afternoon.
First, a portrait of Gale Hawthorne (Liam Hemsworth), best friend of Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence), popped up. Unlike the high fashion most everyone else is wearing, Gale is dressed more appropriately for his home district, in a button down shirt with rolled up sleeves, and work boots. Like the tributes, he is holding a single white rose.
Finally, Lionsgate released a portrait for District 4 victor Finnick Odair (Sam Claflin). Whatever fans were expecting, they probably weren't looking for someone who seems like he took fashion tips from Captain Jack Sparrow. While Finnick is a natural in the water, as his district is known for their fishing, seeing him in garb that resembles a pirate is surprising. Not as surprising for the actor playing him, though. Claflin got his big break in the film "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides." Like Finnick, Johanna Mason's outfit features design influences from her district, but not to this degree.
The Gale portrait was released on PopSugar, while the Finnick poster was put up by MTV. The clock is already counting down to the unveiling of the next portrait, Friday morning.
