Joss Stone: Two men on trial for plotting to murder singer
After being arrested in June 2011 near her home, two men are now on trial in Britain for plotting to murder soul singer Joss Stone, the Associated Press reports. On Monday, prosecutors said the men planned to rob and kill Stone, then dump her body in a river. Junior Bradshaw and Kevin Liverpool were picked up by police after Stone's neighbors saw them and became suspicious.
According to prosecutors, the pair left their home to carry out the plot with a samurai sword, knives, and a hammer. They also had gloves and black bags. Handwritten notes were found in the suspects' car that read "Jocelyn RIP," and "Once Jocelyn's dead...find a river to dump her." One note even made a reference to decapitation.
While a motive for the crime isn't known for sure, prosecutors say the two may have targeted Stone for her money, or due to her links to the royal family, as notes found in the car also showed they disapproved of her being invited to Prince William and Kate Middleton's wedding.
Allegedly, the men were part of a gang that came up with the plan, though no other members could be found. The defendants deny the charges filed against them.
