'Captain America' sequel adds UFC's Georges St-Pierre as Batroc the Leaper - report
With "Captain America: The Winter Soldier" scheduled to be in theaters in just about a year, casting news has been leaking out. First word got out that Emily VanCamp was close to a deal to star as Chris Evans' love interest in the movie, and that news was followed by a report that Robert Redford is in talks to appear as well.
Now comes a report from Latino Review that UFC Welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre is coming aboard the film as Batroc the Leaper. If true, it would be the first major role for St-Pierre. Batroc is a character in the Marvel comics universe that has no superhuman powers, but is an Olympic-level weightlifter in peak physical condition.
Should he end up in the role, one change St-Pierre would have to make is his facial hair. While the fighter is normally clean-shaven, Batroc has a very distinct handlebar mustache. St-Pierre isn't the first fighter to step foot into the current group of Marvel movies. It was recently reported that former WWE champion and MMA fighter Dave Bautista has joined "Guardians of the Galaxy" as Drax the Destroyer.
Other than Evans, Sebastian Stan will return for the second "Captain America." In the first movie, Stan played Bucky Barnes, best friend to Steve Rogers/Captain America. His character seemed to die at the end of the film, but in the comics he returns as the character Winter Soldier. "Captain America: The Winter Soldier" is being directed by brothers Joe and Anthony Russo.
