'Anchorman 2': Harrison Ford to play Tom Brokaw type before reprising 'Star Wars' role

anchorman-2-harrison-ford-gi.jpgThe "Anchorman 2" news just keeps getting better. Recently Will Ferrell's co-star Christina Applegate joined producer and director Adam McKay in announcing Kristen Wiig is on board. Now comes the news Harrison Ford will help keep the cast list classy.

THR reports Ford, who is rumored to be reprising his role as Han Solo in "Star Wars: Episode VII," will portray a Tom Brokaw-type "legendary newscaster" in the much-anticipated sequel to 2004's "Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy."

"Anchorman: the Legend Continues" will see Ferrell and Applegate return to their roles as Ron Burgundy and Veronica Corningstone, respectively. Also returning are Paul Rudd, David Koechner, and Steve Carell, whose wife will be played by Wiig.

The plot points are still under wraps for now, but McKay has said the cast of characters will face technical difficulties as the world moves into a 24-hour news cycle. A custody battle between Burgundy and Corningstone is also expected.

"Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues" is slated for a Dec. 20, 2013 release.
