Tim Tebow speaking at anti-gay church in Dallas
Tim Tebow has been in the news quite a bit lately, and most of it has revolved around where he'll end up, if anywhere, during the next football season. It must be a relief for him to finally be making headlines for something else. This can't be much easier to deal with, though.
Tebow is scheduled for a speaking engagement at First Baptist Dallas, a mega church in Texas's third largest city. It shouldn't be much of a problem, right? Tebow has been very open about his faith in the past, and even somehow made prayer go viral when "Tebowing" became the stuff of internet lore.
The issue is the church Tebow will be speaking at isn't known for being nice. Quite the opposite, the church's pastor, Robert Jeffress, has become known in the mainstream for anti-gay, and antisemitic comments.
According to the Huffington Post, Jeffress has some very controversial theories, on things like a supposed link he believe exists between homosexuality and pedophilia. He also claimed the re-election of Barack Obama would "lead to the rise of the Antichrist." It goes on from there, such as he thinks Islam and Mormonism are heretical religions from "the pit of hell," and "you can't be saved being a Jew."
Imagine looking forward to this bucket of sunshine every Sunday morning? Tebow is scheduled to speak at the church April 28, no word on what he plans to talk about, or if he'll actually go through with it.
