Mr. Bean's $1.4M car repair bill for his McLaren F1 highest ever in Britain
Mr. Bean rides again! After crashing his very expensive McLaren F1 in 2011, actor Rowan Atkinson, best known for his role as the buffoon, has finally got the car back from the repair shop, and the bill is staggering.
The Sun reports that repairs to the car cost £910,000, which translates to about $1.4 million in U.S. dollars. That sets the record for the most expensive car repair claim on record. That's a big chunk of change for a car that only cost a million bucks in the first place. The repairs were approved, by his insurance company, when the value of the car shot up as high as $3.5 million.
It's a drop in the bucket for Atkinson, worth a reported $112 million. It won't take long before he's back on the road, driving the car with a top speed of 240 mph. "I'm not a collector," he says, "I don't like the toy cupboard syndrome that causes so many good cars to evaporate." Atkinson's is one of only 64 F1s McLaren built, making is one of the rarest modern cars.
