'Lincoln' DVDs being sent to every U.S. middle and high school

Oscar voters aren't the only ones getting their hands on free copies of Steven Spielberg's "Lincoln." According to THR, DVDs of the movie will be sent to all middle and high schools in the U.S., both public and private.

The movies are being sent in conjunction with a social action campaign, called "Stand Tall: Live Like Lincoln." It will be sent along with a guide that will help teachers discuss Abraham Lincoln's real-life impact on the country.

In a statement, Spielberg says, "As more and more people began to see the film, we received letters from teachers asking if it could be available in their classrooms." The director continues, "We realized that the educational value that Lincoln could have was not only for the adult audiences--who have studied his life in history books--but for the young students in the classroom as well."

In addition to the copies sent to schools, screenings have been scheduled for 8 U.S. towns named Lincoln, which will be followed by 15 Lincoln High School screenings across the country in under served communities. The schools will also receive new audio-visual equipment, including a Blu-ray player, a projector, a set of speakers, and a 120" portable screen.

Lincoln lead's this year's Academy Awards nomination count with 12.
