Jodi Arias' secret affair with Travis Alexander used to defend murder

Jodi Arias' secret affair with Mormon elder Travis Alexander ended in murder when she killed him in Arizona in 2008. She has told various stories of Alexander's death in court, first saying she had nothing to do with it and then claiming he was killed by intruders, but her current testimony is that she killed him in self-defense.

The defense's latest evidence to support Arias' claim is that Alexander lied about their sexual relationship to those closest to him. Her attorneys showed the court pictures of his penis that he sent to Arias and also claimed they exchanged graphic messages and sexual phone calls.

As Alexander was an elder in the Mormon church, he was supposed to abstain from sexual activity. Alexander reportedly treated Arias as his "dirty little secret" and kept her away from his friends, even asking some to come with them on trips so "they weren't as physical," ABC News reports.

Arias defense calls Alexander a sex-obsessed liar who cheated on her and was repeatedly cruel to her. They are expected to conclude that Alexander physically threatened Arias when she killed him. The 32-year-old is accused of stabbing Alexander more than 30 times. If she is convicted of murder, she could face the death penalty.
