Forest Whitaker says he was falsely accused of shoplifting by NYC deli
Academy Award-winning actor Forest Whitaker isn't a happy man, right now, and it sounds like he may have a good reason for it. TMZ reports the actor was accused of shoplifting Friday morning, as he left the Milano Market, a New York City deli.
He says he was stopped on his way out the door by an employee, who claimed he swiped something from a shelf. According to an eyewitness, the employee then frisked Whitaker in plain view of the entire store.
A rep for Whitaker says the actor is upset, as all he did was walk into the deli. "Frisking individuals without proof/evidence is a violation of rights," the rep says. Whitaker didn't call the authorities, as the employee feared he would lose his job. The rep says, "Forest asked that, in the future, the store change their behavior and treat the public in a fair and just manner."
It has to be unlikely that the employee will keep his job after all this.
