debbie-ford-dies-self-help-book.jpgBestselling author Debbie Ford has passed away at the age of 57, a family spokesman tells the Associated Press. Ford died at her home in San Diego Sunday (Feb. 17) after a long battle with cancer.

Ford was the author of "The Dark Side of the Light Chasers," which kick-started a self-help franchise for the author. The book, which came out 15 years ago, was designed to help readers over come their darker sides. It led to eight more books, including "The Secret of the Shadow" and "The 21-Day Consciousness Cleanse," workshops and TV and radio shows on the topic.

Ford was very candid in speaking about her own struggles with drug addiction, divorce and problems at work.

In a statement, Ford's sister Arielle says that Debbie wanted to help people break free from their fear and emotional baggage. She is also survived by her mother, son and brother.
