Carrie Fisher 'hospitalized briefly' after bi-polar cruise ship episode
Carrie Fisher's strange Holland America Eurodam cruise ship performance was actually the product of a bi-polar episode. A representative for the 56-year-old actress has released a statement saying that Fisher was hospitalized following the incident.
"There was a medical incident related to Carrie Fisher's bipolar disorder," spokeswoman Carol Marshall says to Reuters. "She went to the hospital briefly to adjust her medication and is feeling much better now."
Videos of Fisher's performance have made their way online and don't paint a nice picture of the star. After her dog defecated on stage, she picked it up with a piece of paper and stuffed it in a couch, and then chased audience members down the aisle of the theater they were in when they tried to leave. Fisher also seemed to have trouble remembering the lyrics to the songs "Skylark" and "Bridge Over Troubled Waters" when she sang them.
At the time, many acknowledged that this was likely a bi-polar episode, as Fisher has been open about her struggles with the disorder in the past. "Those of us who know people with the same situation knew right away what was happening. She was in one of those highs and it can appear to be other causes. Please support her and do not make fun of her," one Cruise Critic user wrote of the incident.
