The San Francisco 49ers won't be playing in Candlestick Park much longer. Candlestick's demolition has been slated for 2014, the plan being to blow up the 69,000-seat stadium with a 30-second implosion after the team completes its 2013 season.

Candlestick Park is 53 years old and has hosted an array of iconic events during its time, from the final concert performed by The Beatles to two World Series games -- plus, of course, a whole lot of football matches. The San Francisco Chronicle writes that the site will be replaced with a shopping center. There are also reportedly plans to make a 3,000- to 4,000-seat arena for small concerts and hockey and basketball sporting events in that area.

Following the Candlestick demolition, the 49ers will play in a new $1 billion stadium in Santa Clara that was announced back in 2006. The San Francisco football team just came off a good run during their 2012 season, making it to the Super Bowl but losing to the Batltimore Ravens 34 to 31.
