This past year, the 100 richest people in the world managed to get even richer. Bloomberg reports that the elite echelon of the wealthy made $241 billion in 2012, making their combined net worth equal $1.9 trillion.

Amancio Ortega -- the founder of Inditex, the company behind Zara -- gained the most this year, with the 76-year-old Spaniard adding $22.2 billion to his fortune for a total of $57 billion. Mexican telecommunications mogul Carlos Slim remains the richest man on the planet, and he also gained the second most in 2012.

Also making the top of the list are Bill Gates, Warren Buffett and IKEA founder Ingvar Kamprad. They're joined by other billionaires Mark Zuckerberg, Amazon chief executive Jeff Bezos and the four heirs of Wal-Mart -- Jim Walton, Christy Walton, Alice Walton and Rob Walton.
