Michelle Kwan marries Clay Pell in Rhode Island
Olympic figure skater Michelle Kwan tied the knot this past weekend, reports the Providence Journal. Her new husband is Clay Pell, grandson of former Rhode Island Senator Claiborne Pell. The two were married at the First Unitarian Church in Providence. Pell is a lieutenant in the United States Coast Guard, so four uniformed officers were on hand to hold up swords in a saber arch under which the newlyweds walked following the ceremony. Pell also is director for strategic planning on the National Security staff at the White House.
Kwan, 32, was always a bridesmaid, never a bride in her bid for Olympic gold, despite being the most decorated figure skater in U.S. history. She won the silver medal in 1998 in Nagano and the bronze medal in 2002 in Salt Lake City.
