Man, 70, divorces 15-year-old-girl after she runs away

What a difference a week makes. A 70-year-old man in Saudi Arabia was newly married only a few days ago, after paying a $20,000 dowry to the family of a 15-year-old-girl. Not everything went as smoothly as he'd hoped, though, when the girl ran away from him and returned to her family.

The marriage came to light when the man complained to authorities that he had been duped by the girl's family when they took her back. Human rights workers believe the girl fled after a fight with the older man.

According to CNN, Saudi Arabia's Human Rights Commission reached out to the girl and her family, offering legal help. "A divorce has taken place," commission president Dr. Bandar Alaiban said, "and the dispute has now been resolved amicably."

Saudi Arabia does not have a law stipulating a minimum age for marriage, though human rights groups are campaigning to change that.
