Katie Couric asks Manti Te'o 'Are you gay?' in interview

Katie Couric's interview with Manti Te'o took a bit of an awkward turn, Thursday. While Couric didn't question Te'o on the inconsistencies in his story, as it related to his knowledge of his fake girlfriend, she did ask one question that stood out.

"Are you gay?" Couric asks. Manti dismisses the possibility saying, "No, far from it. Faaaaaar from that," which made both Te'o and the audience laugh. Couric was addressing earlier rumors that Te'o used the fake girlfriend hoax to hide his sexuality. Te'o maintains that the voice he spoke with on the phone didn't sound like a man, and even complimented the supposed mastermind of the hoax, Ronaiah Tuiasosopo, saying, "If he somehow made that voice, that's an incredible talent."

Almost immediately the hashtag #farfromgay started trending on Twitter.
