'Jeopardy' Supercomputer Watson enrolls in college but won't live in the dorm
Being smart enough to defeat the best "Jeopardy" players ever just isn't enough for some people. Why else would IBM send their supercomputer, Watson, to college?According to Fox News, IBM announced Watson's enrollment at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, in New York, Wednesday. The idea is the supercomputer will sharpen it's skills in math and English, just like its human counterparts. No word yet on what frat Watson will try to join, but it should be easy enough to find a toga to fit a flat screen TV.
Watson's ability to beat "Jeopardy's" top champions was due to being programmed with the contents of encyclopedias, dictionaries, books, news reports, and movie scripts. With all of the world's knowledge stored into your memory, beating some people on a game show shouldn't be much of a challenge. The one area where Watson's knowledge is lacking is social skills. Luckily, that's what college is all about.
