The Gowanus Canal, a polluted waterway running through New York's borough of Brooklyn, has become home to a trapped dolphin Friday (Jan. 25). The presumably scared sea creature has been surfacing while rescue workers stand around and try to figure out what to do.
You can watch the progress (or lack thereof, so far) in the above video. The canal, which connects to the Upper New York Bay, has a history of environmental pollution problems, with it being listed on the Superfund National Priorities List in March 2010.
Hopefully rescue workers can find a way to get the dolphin back out to sea.
UPDATE
: The
New York Times says
that rescuers from the Riverhead Foundation on Long Island are on their way.
