Carmelo Anthony's mysterious fast ends after 15 days

Carmelo Anthony's mysterious fast has finally come to an end. The New York Knicks player revealed following the Knicks' defeat of the New Orleans Hornets that he had been fasting for "spiritual reasons" for 15 days but, unsurprisingly, it had drained his energy.

"It's a long story. I haven't had a good meal in about two-and-a-half weeks. No meats, no carbs, anything like that," he tells Newsday. "I don't know how I was going through competing at a high level. Just sometimes these past three, four games where the body just feels depleted out there and just trying to find a way to get energy. But like I said, I surrender. I'm done. I'm going to get some food right now."

That is likely part of the reason why the Knicks had had a three-game losing streak. Though Anthony says he was excited to eat "the biggest steak that I can possibly get," he adds that this kind of spiritual cleanse is something he regularly does -- though no longer.

"I usually do it sometimes just to get some clarity in my life," Anthony says. "Spiritual reasons. I'm done now. I can't do it no more."
