Ashley Judd and Dario Franchitti are getting a divorce

Ashley Judd and her husband, racecar driver Dario Franchitti, are divorcing after 12 years of marriage.

As to why the divorce is happening, the couple did make a statement to People (which first broke the story) on their reasons:

"We have mutually decided to end our marriage. We'll always be family and continue to cherish our relationship based on the special love, integrity, and respect we have always enjoyed."

After a couple of years of dating, the couple married in 2001 during a private ceremony in Scotland. They have no children.

Judd is best known for her acting career. She appeared in bit roles on shows like "Star Trek: The Next Generation" and "Sisters" in the early 1990s before moving on to greater success in feature films. In addition to starring roles in "Kiss the Girls," "Double Jeopardy," "Someone Like You" and more, Judd also scored a Golden Globe nomination for Best actress in the 2004 film, "De-Lovely."

In 2012, Ashley Judd returned to television in the one-season thriller series, "Missing."
