Amy Winehouse: Alcohol poisoning ruled official cause of death in second inquiry

amy-winehouse-singing-getty.jpgSinger Amy Winehouse died July 23, 2011 and an inquiry into her death in October of that same year ruled the cause of death to be accidental alcohol poisoning. However, Suzanne Greenaway, the coroner who oversaw the investigation, was found to be ineligible to hold the coroner's position at St. Pancras Coroner's Court in London and so the investigation had to be reopened.

The second inqurest confirmed Tuesday (Jan. 8) that Winehouse died of accidental alcohol poisoning when she began drinking again after a period of abstaining from alcohol and drugs.

Coroner Shirley Radcliffe ruled that the singer "died as a result of alcohol toxicity" and recorded the verdict of death by misadventure. She said there was no foul play or suspicious circumstances.
