The Oscar nominees have been announced, and the contenders for the Best Original Song at the 85th Academy Awards are a mixed bunch. Popular favorite Adele got her expected nod for "Skyfall," but she'll be facing off against some stiff competition in this year's Oscars host, Seth MacFarlane.

MacFarlane is nominated alongside Walter Murphy for the song "Everybody Needs a Best Friend" from "Ted." Somehow we doubt he expected to get that nomination when he agreed to take the hosting gig, but now we're grossing our fingers that these two will have a sing-off or something during the show if they end up performing their nominated songs like it has been done in the past.

Of course, there's no guarantee that it's going to be either Adele or MacFarlane taking home the big win. Also up for the Best Original Song Oscar are J. Ralph for the song "Before My Time" from "Chasing Ice," Mychael Danna and Bombay Jayashri for "Pi's Lullaby" from "Life of Pi" and Claude-Michel Schonberg, Herbert Kretzmer and Alain Boublil for "Suddenly" from "Les Miserables." The Oscar winners will be announced on Feb. 24.
