'Tron 3' gains new writer as Disney takes renewed interest in the film

Just because Disney has recently acquired Lucasfilm doesn't mean that the studio has forgotten about its other high-concept science fiction franchise. The Mouse House is still working on a sequel to 2010's "Tron: Legacy," and has recently found a new writer for it.

The Hollywood Reporter has learned that Disney is in negotiations with screenwriter Jesse Wigutow to write a new draft of the "Tron 3" script. David DiGillio wrote a previous version, and it's unclear if Wigutow will work from that or start from scratch. THR claims that Disney Chairman Alan Horn is pushing for the film to be "developed with a renewed purpose."

Plot details for "Tron 3" are being kept under wraps, but "Tron: Legacy" definitely left room for a sequel. "Legacy" director Joseph Kosinski is attached to direct "Tron 3" as well. Garrett Hedlund, Jeff Bridges and Olivia Wilde starred in "Tron: Legacy," though it's unclear if they'll return for this new movie.
