Torii Hunter's gay comment: A homosexual teammate 'will be difficult and uncomfortable'

Torii Hunter's gay comment in a new interview is nothing new in the world of professional sports, but it still is stirring up a good deal of controversy. The Detroit Tigers right fielder and former Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim player revealed in a new interview that he would not be able to deal with a teammate who identified as a homosexual.

"For me, as a Christian ... I will be uncomfortable because in all my teachings and all my learning, biblically, it's not right," he says in an interview with The Los Angeles Times. "It will be difficult and uncomfortable."

The article quotes other pro sports players' homophobic comments, including New England Patriots linebacker Brandon Spikes who tweeted earlier this year, "I'm homophobic just like I'm arachnopobic. I have nothing against homosexuals or spiders but I'd still scream if I found one in my bathtub!'' He tweeted three hours later, "PEOPLE!!!! It's a joke ...seriously a JOKE!!! Chill out," but no one seemed to be laughing.
