Jacintha Saldana: Kate Middleton and Prince William mourn prank call nurse's death
The hospital employee found dead in the aftermath of a prank call to Kate Middleton's room has been identified as Jacintha Saldana.
Kate was laid up in a London hospital bed being treated for severe morning sickness related to her recently confirmed pregnancy when Australian radio personalities posing as Prince Charles and Queen Elizabeth II called to dig for personal information.
Saldana fell for the prank and transferred the call, resulting in another nurse releasing private details over the radio. Saldana's body was found in what may have been a suicide amid public outcry over the security breech.
A spokesperson for St. James Palace released the following statement:
"The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are deeply saddened to learn of the death of Jacintha Saldanha. Their Royal Highnesses were looked after so wonderfully well at all times by everybody at King Edward VII Hospital, and their thoughts and prayers are with Jacintha Saldanha's family, friends and colleagues at this very sad time."
Kate was released from the hospital following her treatment. Gawker reports the Australian DJs, Mel Greig and Michael Christian, have deleted their Twitter accounts and opted not to return to their show until further notice.
