Happy Festivus! Celebrate the holiday for the rest of us

Happy Festivus!

Christmas getting you down? Don't feel like your religion would be cool with you celebrating such a Christmas holiday? Miss "Seinfeld" a lot?

If the answer was "yes" to any of these questions, you should consider celebrating Festivus on December 23.

Thanks to a 1997 episode of "Seinfeld," ("The Strike"), the world now has the grand holiday of Festivus. Frank Costanza (Jerry Stiller), who generously gave audiences this day, also provided celebrants with a series of traditions.

According to the "Happy Festivus!" website, these traditions include:

• The Festivus pole (an unadorned aluminum pole)
• The "Airing of the Grievances" (in which participants complain)
  
• Festivus dinner (traditionally meat loaf or spaghetti with red sauce)
• The "Feats of Strength" in which the head of the household must be pinned.

Of course, over the years, variations on the traditional Festivus celebration have entered into popular culture. This year, for example, you can honor Festivus with Google. Just type the holiday's name into the search engine, and you will get your very own Festivus pole!
