Dina Manfredini: World's oldest person dies at age 115

The world's oldest person has died. Dina Manfredini, a 115-year-old Iowa woman, passed away on Dec. 17. She had only earned the title of world's oldest person two weeks ago.

Lori Logli, Manfredini's granddaughter, confirmed that her grandmother had passed earlier this morning. Logli wouldn't go into detail about the cause of Manfredini's death, the Associated Press reports. Manfredini was a native of Italy. She died at Bishop Drumm Retirement Center.

A woman named Besse Cooper had held the title of world's oldest person earlier this month. She passed away at age 116 on Dec. 4. Only eight other people have ever been recognized as having lived that long.

Now the Guinness World Records believes that a Japanese man holds the title of oldest person alive. Jiroemon Kimura, 115, was born on April 19, 1897. He is reportedly believed to be the second-oldest man in documented history. He was born only 15 days after Manfredini, whose birthday was April 4.
