Tabloid editor resigns amid Kate Middleton topless pics backlash

kate-middleton-naked-photographs.jpgA tabloid editor in Ireland has resigned amid backlash over topless photos of Kate Middleton, ABC News reports. The Irish Daily Star is one of many publications to have printed the scandalous photos of Kate topless with Prince William, taken while the couple was on private holiday in France.

Upon reaction to the photos from the Royal Palace, the Northern and Shell group, which owns the Daily Star, issued a statement saying they disagreed with the paper's decision to run the photos.

In the aftermath of the photo scandal, the company faced tension from shareholders and threatened to shut down the publication. In light of this, editor Michael O'Kane tendered his resignation.

The royal family has pushed for criminal charges in the case against the photographer responsible for the snaps. The man was recently identified to French authorities.
