'Star Wars' fan-created dream theme park map shows what could be

Freelance artist Tom Hodges didn't know how timely his recent "Star Wars Universe Dream Park Park Map" would be when he created it for the Star Wars Celebration V event in Orlando over the summer. At the time, the 250 pieces of the limited edition art (which can be seen above) sold out almost immediately and quickly became collectibles.

The image was designed based off an old 1966 Disneyland map and showed what Hodges figured a "Star Wars" theme park would look like if it was styled after a Disney amusement park. Considering the recent news that Disney has acquired Lucasfilm, Hodges' fan rendering doesn't seem so farfetched anymore, and he knows it.

"I always thought this was something that should've been done a long time ago," Hodges tells Entertainment Weekly. "But I found out when I was doing the map that Disney had a contract with Lucasfilm that they could not put a Star Wars theme park in a country that has a Disney park. But now that Disney owns LucasFilm, the sky is the limit."

Since this is already a theme park layout that fans are on board with, maybe Disney have Hodges be involved in the seemingly inevitable project. We're totally game for a Death Star Trench Run thrill ride.
