Romney's 'gifts' comment: The White House responds

In a conference call with high level campaign donors, Mitt Romney blamed his loss of the 2012 presidential race on "extraordinary financial gifts from the government" offered to "targeted groups" by President Barack Obama.

Romney seems to say Obama's strategy was to tempt young people and minority groups with free health care, and the Hispanic community with amnesty, then put forth a concerted effort to drive voter turn out among those constituents. 

The former Massachusetts governor says the gifts Obama offered "add up to trillions of dollars."

Many in the GOP have distanced themselves from the comments, and now the White House has responded, saying Romney's claims are "at odds with the truth of what happened."

White House Press Secretary Jay Carney tells CBS News, Obama's approach is "good for all Americans. It's good for the economy."
