Miley Cyrus receives a birthday pig from PETA
Miley Cyrus just celebrated her 20th birthday on Friday (Nov. 23), and the famous pop star asked her fans to donate to two of her favorite animal charities -- the Starkey Hearing Foundation and the Saving SPOT! Dog Rescue -- as a birthday gift to her. Well, PETA did Cyrus one better: The animal rights organization is sponsoring a pig in Cyrus' honor.
"PETA knew that sponsoring a rescued pig was the perfect birthday present for a young woman who spends so much time encouraging others to help animals," PETA Vice President Tracy Reiman sad in a statement. "From promoting animal adoption to speaking up for cows who suffer on dairy farms, Miley never stops letting her millions of fans know what they can do to make the world a kinder place."
The pig in question is named Nora and lives at the Kindred Spirits Sanctuary in Ocala, Fla. The farm takes in used or abused animals, and Cyrus apparently thought that Nora was a great gift.
"Thank you so much for saving Nora in honor of my bday," she tweeted at PETA. "oh my pigggggyyyyy! She is so cute I can hardly stand ittttttt!!!! she looks so happy yay"
