James Bond scores big: 'Skyfall' opens to more than $30 million Friday
The 23rd James Bond movie is shaping up to be possibly the biggest one at the box office. "Skyfall" earned an estimated $30.8 million Friday (Nov. 9) and could be on pace to make as much as $80 million for the weekend. That would be the biggest opening for a Bond movie ever ("Quantum of Solace" currently holds the mark at $67.5 million).
The movie also made $2.2 million Thursday at IMAX theaters, bringing its total to $33 million. "Skyfall" has been playing overseas for a couple of weeks and has already grossed more than $300 million.
Last weekend's leader, "Wreck-It Ralph," was second Friday with an estimated $7.8 million. "Flight" made $4.2 million for third place, and Ben Affleck's "Argo" came in fourth with $1.8 million.
Steven Spielberg's latest film, "Lincoln," is only playing in 11 theaters before opening wide next week, but it still made an estimated $268,000 Friday. That's an average of more than $24,000 per screen.
