Guy Fieri's American Kitchen and Bar: New York Times critic's scathing takedown
New York Times food critic Peter Wells did not enjoy his experience at Guy Fieri's new Times Square restaurant, Guy's American Kitchen and Bar. In fact, he hated the entire meal -- and the dishes that never arrived to his table -- so much that he wrote a very, very harsh review on the restaurant that poses an array of increasingly scatching questions to the "Diners, Drive-ins and Dives" host who created the establishment.
"Guy Fieri, have you eaten at your new restaurant in Times Square?" Wells writes. "Have you pulled up one of the 500 seats at Guy's American Kitchen & Bar and ordered a meal? Did you eat the food? Did it live up to your expectations? Did panic grip your soul as you stared into the whirling hypno wheel of the menu, where adjectives and nouns spin in a crazy vortex?"
He continues later, "When you cruise around the country for your show 'Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives,' rasping out slangy odes to the unfancy places where Americans like to get down and greasy, do you really mean it? Or is it all an act? Is that why the kind of cooking you celebrate on television is treated with so little respect at Guy's American Kitchen & Bar?"
While Wells' zero-star review for Guy's American Kitchen and Bar is intended to steer customers away from this establishment, it seems more likely that some will now venture in to see if the blue cocktail, "the one that glows like nuclear waste," actually tastes like "some combination of radiator fluid and formaldehyde." Wouldn't you?
