Facebook removes elbow photo mistaken for nude breast then issues apology

facebook-removes-elbow-photo-not-nipple.jpgFacebook moderators removed a perfectly benign photo of a woman in a bathtub because her elbow too closely resembled a female nipple.

The Facebook page, "Theories of the deep understanding of things" was purportedly pushing the envelope with moderators after breastfeeding photos were removed from the social network.

The photo in question was clearly not in violation of Facebook's terms of service, which prohibits users from posting "content that: is hate speech, threatening, or pornographic; incites violence; or contains nudity or graphic or gratuitous violence."

The "Theories" page posted about the photo removal, writing, "FB moderators can't tell an elbow from a dangerous, filthy, uncanny and violent female breast."

The social network later reinstated the photo and issued an apology to the Facebook page administrator.

What do you think? Was this an easy oversight? Or do the Facebook mods need to have their eyes checked?
